The 2011-12 School Year

 

The training conducted during that school year was for the teachers who taught the Compensatory Classes organized by the Project at secondary and high schools of Thrace. Their participation in this training was required (it was compulsory).

There were two forms of training:

(A) Training in Groups

It took place in Xanthi, in Komotini, and in Alexandroupolis. In the 2011-12 school year  two such training activities were organized. The topic of the training was how to use the Project-produced educational materials for Mathematics effectively.

(B) Intra-School Training
An important part of the training for the Math teachers took place within the schools, in the form of training meetings at school units that take part in the Compensatory Teaching program. These meetings made it possible to examine directly and work immediately on the issues that occur during teaching based on the educational materials for Mathematics.

The 2010-11 School Year

The training conducted in that school year was for all secondary education teachers in Thrace, and especially for those who work at schools with Muslim pupils. For the teachers who worked for the Project participation was required, whereas for the rest it was voluntary.

The training meetings that were conducted during this school year were the following:

 

Presentation of the Educational Materials for the Mathematics Classes

On 1/13/2011, in Xanthi and on 1/14/2011, in Komotini.
The meeting with the Math teachers that took place as part of the general training conducted on the 13th and the 14th of January, 2011, was focused on two themes:
a. On the basic principles of Math education, applied to the circumstances of our time.
b. On issues pertaining to the use of the educational materials for the Math classes, produced by the Project in its previous phases. In other words, on the examination of issues that emerged when those materials were used in the classroom in the 2002-2004 and 2005-2007 periods.

2nd Training Meeting for the Math Classes
The second training meeting for the Mathematics classes took place on the 2nd of February, 2011, in Komotini, and on the 9th of February, 2011, in Xanthi. Its topic was: “The Classroom as a Place of Initiation of the Pupil into the Mathematical Thought: Management of the Mathematical Knowledge and Learning.”

The third training meeting for the Mathematics classes took place on the 2nd of March, 2011, in Komotini, and on the 9th of March, 2011, in Xanthi. Its topic was: “The Classroom as a Place of Initiation of the Pupil into the Mathematical Thought: Management of Interaction and Communication.”

The fourth training meeting for the Mathematics classes took place on the 5th of April, 2011, in Komotini, and on the 6th of April, 2011, in Xanthi. Its topic was: “How to Use the Educational Materials for Mathematics Effectively in the Classroom: Venturing an Initial Evaluation.”
