For the classes aimed at enhancing Minority pupils’ Greek language skills in Mathematics, teachers use the educational material entitled “Mathematics in an environment shaped for autonomous learning”, whose objective is to develop the autonomy and self-confidence of the pupils in this particular subject, cultivating their ability to comprehend instructions written in the Greek language, and their ability to make a case, putting forth arguments, and basing their actions and thoughts on proofs that are valid from the mathematical point of view.
The systematic training meetings, that take place to provide support to the teachers, focus on the ways to strengthen cooperation and interaction among the pupils for the resolution of problems, and on various facets of the teaching practice that the contemporary methodological approaches to teaching consider decisive for learning.
The teachers who teach the Compensatory Math Classes have been provided with support materials suitable for designing and implementing activities/exercises (number cubes, checkers, dice, logic blocks, toy coins, etc.)
The educational material entitled “Mathematics in an environment shaped for autonomous learning”, is characterized by its richness in content, and by activities, scaled by levels of difficulty, that cover the entire spectrum of concepts and of processes suggested by the analytical curricula of Mathematics, from the upper grades of primary school till the end of the 9th grade, the last year of compulsory education. For the classes aimed at strengthening the Greek language skills at primary schools, the Project associates in charge of this action have put together a selection of activities that corresponds to the detected needs of the aforementioned pupils and compiled a vocabulary of basic mathematical terms.
Similar math classes are conducted at the KESPEMs, as well.
