Training Material for Teachers The “Keys and Master-Keys” Booklet Series The Web-site http://www.kleidiakaiantikleidia.net
This is a series of 34 short, comprehensive and simple scholarly texts, prepared in the 2002-2004 phase. The books are divided into three thematic units: (a) Teaching Methodology, (b) the socio-cultural framework of education, and (c) identities, otherness and differences. These small books were written by educators from all levels, and their goal is to answer some basic questions posed in various educational frameworks, but particularly on the difficult field of Minority education.
The texts do not build new theories, but attempt to combine some already developed ones with teaching practice.
Each of the booklets deals in a concise but comprehensive way with one basic question -- for example, “how do children learn?” – from the point of view of one specific scientific approach – for example, cognitive psychology. The reader may, however, come accross an answer to the same question in another booklet, this time from a different scientific approach, for instance, sociology.
All the texts have the same structure: They begin with a scene at a school, they analyze what has happened and then provide answers from a scientific point of view. In other words, they begin with an event from educational practice, they then move through a process of analysis and synthesis where theory is employed, and end up as ‘keys’ that may help the teacher’s own teaching practice.
On the web-site the visitors can access the texts, read them, and print them out in their entirety. In addition, the visitors can see how one text is linked to the others, and by clicking on the links, they can easily move from text to text. The visitors will additionally find a brief presentation for every couple of texts by A. Androussou, and a commentary by A. Panoutsos. The web-site also has a forum, where educational experts from all over Greece are invited to participate in a dialogue about the issues raised in the texts.
Finally, the last booklet/text, titled “Building Bridges” explains the purpose of these additional presentations, and connects the whole series to the rest of the material produced by PEM.
